Introduction
As camera technology for the everyday consumer has progressed in leaps and bounds over the last decade it is only predictable that items related to the camera would also experience an influx of technology. While 35mm film is being largely replaced with digital storage so too may Digital Frames begin to replace standard frames as a way of displaying your pictures. Tired of having to dust and clean all those picture frames? Then a Digital Frame is for you, and some, like the Rosewill 7” Digital Frame, offer audio as well.

Opened box |
The box has all the specs written on the back side of it. This is very useful information when you purchase an item like this. You want to know what formats are supports and what cool features the item has. When i have opened the box i found a cardboard tray with the frame and accessories mounted.

Back of the frame |
Lets look at the frame. The frame is plastic and that sort of draws the eyes a way. However when looking at it from a distance, the plastic is barely noticeable. On the back of the frame is a stand lever.

Volume and Brightness controls |
The stand lever could be set to position the frame horizontally or vertically. Good idea!. From the side of the frame, i found few options. Brightness, Volume, Earphones and a DC plug for power. (psst, you can use this frame as a mp3 player ^^)

USB or Memory Card |
From the top of the frame there are function buttons such as Menu, Up, Down, Left or Right. With these buttons you can control all of the features of the frame. On the other side of the frame there are 2 plugs. One is for the USB A and another is an SD card reader.

Closing up on the back of the frame is the Rosewill Caution and information print. I believe you need this in order to pass inspection. For our testing purposed i have used a small 256 mb SD card. This should do the trick.

I have placed the sd card in the appropriate slot and now its time to power up this baby. Almost forgot to mention. There is a big RF sensor on the top of the frame. It is noticeable even from distance.

I didn't had any mp3s on the sd card so i wasn't able to test the audio features. The picture slide show kicked in and we were on our way.

Conclusion
The Rosewill Digital Frame is a nice little product for its price. The pictures are rendered quickly and the quality is excellent. However the display’s 16:9 aspect ratio, and no auto-sizing, leaves most pictures letter-boxed. Control of the device is easy and intuitive via an OSD and even further ease of use is added by the inclusion of a remote control that allows you to both configure the device and flip through pictures. Aesthetically the frame presents a plastic faux wood frame and black matte that is easy on the eyes and indistinguishable from a real frame from afar. I particularly liked the ability to use a dedicated USB drive to display only the pictures and play only the music I want. The sound should be more than acceptable and in a pinch the frame could double as an MP3 player.
Overall the device is usable, I could foresee it playing Christmas music and scrolling through pictures during the holidays, but the lack of auto sizing demands that you are technically savvy in resizing pictures or don’t mind having your pictures not filling the whole frame.
I believe this little gadget earned a 7/10!
Some pros we found:
Affordable and easy to use.
No assembly needed.
MP3 player capabilities.
Remote control.

Some Cons we found:
