Product Description:
The MB877SK Series is comparable to our highly regarded MB123SK Series, however it has been re-engineered to have all the same features with a more economical design. Constructed of lightweight aluminum body and durable plastic faceplate, the dock still holds true to our emphasis on protection and durability. The stylish all-black door has built in vents for optimal cooling and air flow to keep your drives running at their best. To further enhance the cooling, we included a rear outtake fan.
The enclosure uses a screwless design coupled with hot swap capability to make switching out drives a hassle free experience. And to keep your data safe and secure, we have included a keylock security device.
A new feature to the dock, while small and subtle, is the 3D LED status lights. This allows the user to keep track of their drives without having to be right in front of the workstation.
Perfect for system builders and small businesses, the MB877SK is a simple design with big features. And, with our 3-Year Warranty behind it, you can have peace of mind that the enclosure will live up to the Icy Dock standard of quality that you would expect. |

Box Back |
Once again Icy Dock did marvelous job on the packaging the MB877SK-B. The packaging box is simple, yet informative. Very similar to other hard drive enclosures from Icy Dock, the packaging has vivid images of the unit inside and helpful information on the front and the back.

MB877SK-B |
On the back of the box we found MB877SK-B features and specifications. Icy Dock makes two different series of this model so the specifications for both are listed here. In addition, what i thought was cool, since Icy Dock is an international company the have included descriptions of MB877SK-B in other languages.

On the top of the MB877SK-B we found descriptive images with some additional information about the unit inside. Icy Dock did a great job advertising this product to the public through the shipping box. On every side of the unit we found some sort of logo or descriptive information about the unit. Very help full.

Protective bag |
As I mentioned earlier we are reviewing a MB877SK-B model however, Icy Dock also has another model, MB877IK-B with different configurations. Please see the website for additional information on MB877IK-B. The actual enclosure was wrapped in to a protective bag. Icy Dock uses this bag so that the item arrives to a customer unscratched and undamaged.

Out of the box |
|
Front shot |
Not many accessories you are going to find with MB877SK-B. A stand alone unit, a key for the lock and of course, the instructional manual. MB877SK-B has a aluminum body with plastic front and back bays. The front bay/handle looks sturdy enough to be operated with on the daily basis. On the front bay we also found a key lock, a power led and activity led.

Rear shot |
On the side of the MB877SK-B are four standard holes just like the ones you could see on any standard cd drive. On the back of the MB877SK-B are a few connectors, SATA, molex connector and couple of jumpers for power led and hard drive activity. MB877SK-B is equipped with a 40 mm fan which helps to get rid of the hot air which will be produced by hard drive.

 |
Door |
|
SAS / SATA connector |
The hard drive door can be easily opened with just one pull of the locking latch. This latch locks in tight to prevent the hard drive to bounce back out. I have taken a close up shot of the back plane board to show you that this is a SAS / SATA unit. The metal spring you see on the left is what makes this unit screw less.

 |
Size comparison |
|
Almost ready to go |
The size of the MB877SK-B is nearly equal to the hard drive itself. It does look very simple but it also looks like it is going to do the job. Locking the drive in the case was easy enough also. Just a nice push and the locking clip trips the locking mechanism of MB877SK-B.
 |
Installed |
When installed and turned on, we spotted a power led on the upper right corner of the MB877SK-B. Lets take a look at some of the testing data which we have performed.
Testing
ECS P4M900PRO-M V 2.0 ATX Intel Motherboard |
| Nvidia 6900XT 256mb Video Card |
| Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz LGA 775 Dual-Core Processor |
| Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 7200 RPM SATA-300 |
| Patriot DDR PC3200 RAM Dual Channel Kit |
Our standard tests include a HD Tach performance benchmarking and Sandra benchmarking. Today we are going to be using our Western Digital 400 GB hard drive for performing these tests.
 |
HD Tach 8 Mb vs 32 Mb |
Our first test was HD Tach 8Mb vs 32 Mb over the SATA connection. With this benchmark we have gotten burst speed of 131.7 MB/s and average read speed of 56.9 MB/s. These speeds look very similar to some of the other reviews we have performed in the past.
 |
Sandra Benchmarking |
Sandra benchmarking showed us that the drive index is 46.15MB/s and the access time is 13ms. Comparing this data to some of the similar hard drives in the market, MB877SK-B performed very well.
Conclusion
I think MB877SK-B deserves to be in a section of great products. The fact that it has a screw less design speaks for itself. It is hard to find an enclosure such as this that would provide ease of use and accessibility to a computer geek. Hehe yes that's right, geek. I don't see who else would benefit from using MB877SK-B on daily basis. Maybe if you are a graphics designer and you need alot of hard drive storage or maybe an IT professional who does daily backups on the hard drives. Another important feature is that this unit is hot swappable (motherboard permitted). So in theory if you do need alot storage and don't feel like connecting and installing hard drives in and out of the enclosures, this unit might be for you. Great product 10/10!
